We all know that daily movement is important for our overall health. But knowing it, and actually doing it, are two entirely different things. So how do we get our bodies moving, when we have so many conveniences aimed at (making our lives easier) making sure we don’t HAVE to move?
Long days at work, long commutes, drive thru food available 24 hours a day … we don’t even have to get up and walk to get that food that we probably should not be eating anyway. We can have it delivered right to our door.
Are you trying to get the recommended 10,000 steps a day? Did you know that this concept was originally started in Japan, as a way to sell pedometers? I didn’t!
Doesn’t matter how it got started, we now know that to maintain our health and proper weight, regular movement is essential. And 10,000 steps a day is a good benchmark to aim for.
So, how do we do that? Easy! Get up and walk around. Actually, not so easy for many of us. It is too easy to sit behind our desks working (or binge watching a fabulous Netflix series) and let time get away from us. Before we know it, we have sat on our butts for hours.
So, what do we do? Set a timer! Super easy! Whether it is on our watch, our phones, a pop up on the computer we are working on, or a simple little stand-alone timer on the desk next to us, set that timer for one hour and get up when it goes off. You will be amazed how fast an hour goes by!
Get up and stretch, walk around the office, to the water cooler, to the bathroom (see this post), to the copy machine or whatever. Just get up and move!
Try it for a week and let me know how it goes and, how much better your feel! 😊
