Overview: Since Square Foot Gardening was first introduced in 1981, the revolutionary new way to garden developed by Mel Bartholomew has helped millions of home gardeners grow more fresh produce in less space and with less work. Now, based largely on the input and experience of these millions, the system has been even further refined and improved to fully meet today’s changing resources, needs, and challenges.

Likes: While interested in gardening long before finding this book, I had never heard of this method.  Since adopting it, my garden yields have increased, and I learn more and more with each season. I knew as soon as I opened it that this book would be packed with more information than I could absorb in just one read through, with sections about planning, building boxes and structures, soil, how to plant, growing and harvesting, vertical growing, extending the season, and more.  I knew this was a book that would remain on my shelf for many growing seasons.

Dislikes: I have not found anything about the book that I dislike. I have seen various version of the book available online and do wonder how they vary though.

In Closing: This book is very helpful to new as well as experienced gardeners.  The method is tried and true.  Whether you follow all the tips in the book, or just pick and choose, it is a book worth having on your bookshelf!
